Philip, You have done some great work on Majika. You salon looks very comfortable with those nice chairs and a small table.
Your arch looks very functional and is a great way to handle the dinghy launching.
Our galley needs some improvements and I will probably copy your stainless steel backsplash around the stove. I have finished wood on the side of the stove and it is discolored from fridge condenstation and stove accidents.
I need to take some more pictures of my mods, but below are a few pics of some of them.
1. The first is the double helm seat we had made out of aluminum. I did the upholstery.
2. Our radar arch out of aluminum. It has several attachments. Dinghy lift, radar, wind gen, solar panel, SSB antenna, GPS antenna and TV antenna.
3. New stove we put in this year. Painted in green is our fridge with the DC compressor unit underneath.
4. Genoa tracks I added, new bimini frame and top (my sewing project), and new sail cover (my design & construction)
I'll take some more pics and add them to this thread.

Majika,
Wonderfull mods to the saloon. Looks like you've put a lot of 'outside the box' thinking into it. The toolbox in a settee is my favorite.

Majika,
I like what you did with your seating in the salon. It looks comfortable and is a good use of space. I like sitting in a chair rather than on a bench seat with a back rest. The best we could do with chairs was use them in the cockpit and on deck.
Great mods.

Philip,
Your table setup is really ideal. You open up lots of space on the cabin sole and only open the table when needed. The sliding arm supports for the table leaf are a great way to do it. I used similar hardware for pull-out desk in my office. Still need to take some pics of it and post them. Greg

Our Privilege 37 has 3 queen sized berths, but 90% of our cruising is with 2 people. We sleep in the forward berth and use the starboard aft berth for guests. What we really lacked was some office space for a printer, files, a laptop, and a place to sit.
I made some mods to our port aft berth to give us some office space. First I removed the sink and capped off pressure water lines. (We had 5 sinks in the boat and after I remove the one in the guest cabin we will be down to 3) Next I made a desktop with a pull-out tray for a laptop and built a printer shelf above everything. The desk top and printer shelf have extra space for file bins. On the stairs leading up to the berth, I made a "flip-up" seat with a support leg. When not in use, the seat folds down and out of the way. The seat is a piece of red oak so I could get away with one center support leg. It isn't real comfortable, but the only time I really sit in the office is when I need to print something. I use the laptop at the nav station when doing serious "computing."
On top of the berth, we have plastic bins for clothes storage, but we still need to improve the appearance and functionality of this set-up. Currently, the top of the berth (less cushion) is painted wood with a large opening hatch for engine access. Future plans call for a vinyl covering over the wood; improved clothes storage on castors so we can move it on/off the opening hatch; and a small sleeping area with stowable cushions so our grandsons have a place to sleep. In the forward corner of this berth we also have a microwave.
In the future, the Admiral also wants to add a small Engle freezer next to the microwave. Of course that will mean 2 more solar panels on the bimini.

Hey majika,
Looks like you are living in a mansion. Doesn't seem like 37ft. I have one question, where is the hot tub?
Can't wait to get my Leopard 46 this year!
Happy New Year!!!

It's all about creature comforts and what you can afford. Perhaps age a bit and who you are sailing with. For me my wife wanted the 46 ft, so obliged. Also I live in Japan where every place I have lived for 12 years is small, I mean really small. So for me, the space is needed for my mental health, now that my company can afford it, and it is a 90% tax right off over 5 years! So hell ya, gettin the bigger one. Also taking out clients and business contacts so need to impress a bit. Other factor is I am 6'5" so head room and room to turn around without irritating myself by banging into things with my long legs and arms. Wife tends to get seasick, so think it will do better in our local waters.
Otherwise I totally agree, as the best deal and as far as enough space goes the 30 footers are perfect! Best overall deal and ease for sure. Speed like you say will come down a lot to sailing skills as you mentioned. Which I will need to learn.

Maybe we should start a new thread? The ideal cruising cat? Maybe Paul will oblige and move Majica's and his postings over to start it?
It would be interesting, with all the different views in one thread...
