Can you explain to us non-American members what this is about? Also, on another thread, what is "Iron Mike"?

Actually in my house it is happy ham and turkey day.

For you fererners (anyone outside the U.S. (some even limit this to anyone outside the southern U.S.)) today is the day we eat too much and save up our strength to go blow large amounts of money on the federally mandated first shopping day of Christmas on Friday.

To a few remaining misguided souls this is Thanksgiving day, where we are to reflect on the bounty of life.

I didn't find the thread you were referring to but "Iron Mike" is usually a reference to Mike Tyson the former heavy weight boxing champion. A rather sad tale of talent wasted and money blown after he had won and defended his title.

"How to raise the main sail" is the thread.

i put a longer explanation there.

short explanation: its a type of auto pilot that simply holds course for you. if you want to change course you disengage the pilot and change to the new heading then reengage the pilot.

its primitive but almost indestructible. and unless the compass is damaged you can rebuild the whole thing in 30 min. no sealed control units micro chips or motors you cant rebuild if you need to. Oh and the motors are not some specialty item that you can only get in one place.

IIRC you could use a windshield wiper motor.
