WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1200 Thursday 29th July 2010
SATURDAY:
Low pressure is going to be through Scotland on Saturday morning, this bringing an unstable air mass across most of the country. The cold front across the southeast is going to be clearing form the southeast through the morning. The trough over Ireland and western Scotland is a weakening feature as it heads eastwards.
There could be some morning rain over the southeast, this only light and patchy, as the cold front clears away. The air mass which follows is going to be a rather cloudy one. There will be some spots of rain in the wind, a few showers over the hills, especially in the north and west. Most southern counties of England will be drier with some sunny spells.
Thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain over western and northern parts of Scotland with some cloud shrouding the hills.
Winds will be mainly SW 14-18kt (F4-F5) ahead of the cold front, becoming W 12-18kt (F4-F5) behind the front . Lighter winds over northern Scotland in a W’lt at 8-12kt (F3-F4).

SUNDAY:
An unstable northwesterly flow over the country with an occluded front moving south through the North Sea. There will be disturbances in the flow, these spreading southeast as weak features (shown as an occluded front off southwest Ireland).
Probably more sunny spells on Sunday morning, although also some showers developing. The focus for the showers will be over more northern and eastern areas of the country, these showers turning heavy at times into the afternoon. The showers should be fairly well scattered.
Further west a ridge of high pressure will be building and this will be tending to ‘squeeze’ the showers, making them become more scattered and with sunny spells.
Thicker cloud with some showers or lengthier spells of rain over southern Ireland and perhaps southwest England.
The winds will be a W-WNW 10-14kt (F3-F4) but 14-17kt (F4-F5) in SW England.
