Good morning,

Just an (hopefully) interesting snippet for you.

Those of you who have been on Weather School know I spend some time talking about the various more ‘unusual’ markings to be found on synoptic charts. One of these markings that we don’t see so often is a hurricane.

But, on todays 84 hour synoptic chart from the UK Met Office, Hurricane Danielle is clearly marked (see below). The appearance of Danielle marks a turning point I the years weather, as it is a sure sign that autumn is on the way.

We are watching the forecast charts carefully over the coming days for signs that the remains of tropical storms and hurricanes will begin affecting the UK and Ireland; my suspicion at the moment is that they won’t until at least next weekend…but I could be wrong!!! Watch this space.

Best wishes,
Simon
