An unsettled weekend ahead and one that will be windy, so check the forecast regularly.

WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1200hrs, Friday 15th July 2011
SATURDAY:
Low pressure will be over Scotland through Saturday, pushing fronts eastwards.
It will be a very unsettled day for all parts of the country. Cloud and rain associated with the first set of fronts will be clearing slowly eastwards, although could turn heavy at times over southern and southeastern parts of England.
An area of more persistent cloud and rain affects much of eastern Scotland, associated with the occlusion, and then pushes back into western Ireland.
In between will be more broken cloud and showers, some of them heavy, especially on western coasts.
Winds SW 18-25kt (F5-F6) ahead of the fronts but gusts to 35kt (F8) at times, especially on exposed coasts and hills. The winds then veer to the west as the fronts clear and will be 18-25kt (F5-F6) for most southern areas in the afternoon, although to 33kt (F7-F8) through the Channel. Over Scotland the winds will be more cyclonic around 10-14kt (F3-F4). Watch for increasing winds in Ireland later too.

SUNDAY:
The area of low pressure remains over Scotland on Sunday. This is going to be bringing another unsettled day across all parts of the UK and Ireland.
Cloud and rain will be close to the west of Scotland, with another band of showers crossing England and Wales from west to east through the day. The showerrs or rain could be heavy at times.
The main feature of the weather will be the wind. Gales will be widespread over exposed western areas. These will be SW 18-25kt (F5-F6) in the far east but more generally W-NW 23-30kt (F6-F7) in the west with the winds increasing 35-40kt (F8-F9) at times over the north and west of Ireland.
