  1. Re: 1160 - What am I doing wrong? Last in every race!

    Okay, hopefully sorted.

First issue was fouling. The hulls themselves were not too bad, but the props were shocking. Gori three blade folding, but so badly fouled that they could not fold and...
  2. 1160 - What am I doing wrong? Last in every race!

Someone shoot me or tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Constantly dead last by a long margin in the races up here in Darwin.

I have a nice new genoa, but the big laminated main seems to overpower...

    Re: 1160 Sailing downwind hints?

Just advising that I have completed the install and it looks good.

Used 75mm Ronstan stand-ups at the bows and near the winches, Harken cheek blocks, and got a 105m2 assy from FarEastSails.

Re: Seawind 1160. Resin or Epoxy to repair?

That's all they stocked on the shelf!
  5. Seawind 1160 - Traveller upgrade! Use 8mm Spectra!

Just passing on a tip I picked up from a 1250 owner.

Use 8mm spectra on the traveller instead of 10mm double-braid. The reduction in rope size frees everything up nicely, and you can then move...

Re: Seawind 1160. Resin or Epoxy to repair?

After buying epoxy (West System + 403) I received belated advice from the factory that polyester would have been ok as its' mainly poly on walls.

As I had the stuff already, I completed the repair...

Re: Seawind 1160. Resin or Epoxy to repair?

Found a supplier here in Darwin that actually stocks West System stuff so I'll go that route. I'll report results in a couple of days.

Does poly paste have enough 'stick' to work as a good glue?

Re: Seawind 1160. Resin or Epoxy to repair?

Thanks all. I'll probably use Epiglue to bond the wood, then polyester with matting over the top. The issue is on the inside of a wall so the repair will not be visible.

Seawind 1160. Resin or Epoxy to repair?

We just discovered water ingress through the shaft on the starboard wheel. The timber panel giving the wheel mount support was rotted out, so I have cut out that soggy cardboard, tidied up and have...

Re: Screecher coming unfurled on a 1160

Reviving an old thread, but we have found putting some downward tension on the sheet as the screecher is furled means the top part of the sail furls MUCH tighter and does not open up to the wind.

    Re: Putting Seawind into Survey

I was able to get my 1160 into survey for the Whitsundays charter fleet by finding a sister ship. The authorities accepted that a boat one or two hull numbers older/younger was equivalent.

    It did...

    Re: 1160 Sailing downwind hints?

I'm now sitting at Gove at the point of Northern Territory and have decided I **MUST** have a spinnaker. I was given a small assy and found it was the only piece of fabric that could get me across...

Re: Screecher coming unfurled on a 1160

Furling can be a real pain, especially as I usually want to put the screecher away as the wind is building so removing the load is hard. I shade the sail by opening the jib underneath it and trying...

    Re: 1160 Sailing downwind hints?

MPS is different to the screecher right? I'm thinking that you are talking about an asymmetrical big-arse light-wind kite?

I have the bowsprit and hardware for the screecher, but would I need...

    1160 Sailing downwind hints?

Anyone have suggestions for effectively sailing downwind?

Currently heading up the QLD coast in a cruising (ie. heavy) 1160 with the laminated main, a jib, and the screecher.

    In 10-15 knots...

Re: Screecher coming unfurled on a 1160

I second the opinion to drop the thing in any sort of wind. Mine will start banging against the jib furler if I leave it up.

On a second problem... I just had the quick-release on the furler cut...
