Back in the "saddle". This time a Maine Cat 30

Hello all,

After a few years of owning, cruising and living aboard a Privilege 435 (which I loved) we had to give it up for several reasons which were outside of our control. It has been about 2 1/2 years since we sold her. Like an addict, I was only able to maintain sanity for so long and have succumbed to the urge. So we decided to get another boat. We weren't looking for another big complicated cruising cat so we opted for something simpler, smaller, easier to "keep going" less expensive to maintain and store. We looked at a few boats in the small cat range and ended up deciding on a Maine Cat 30. It will work better for our current needs, which will be more in the vein of coastal cruising, jaunts to the Bahamas, Keys and ICW use. We are hoping to take possession of her in a few weeks. We are looking forward to getting back out to sea more often!

Congratulations Pat. The addiction doesn't go away does it? I've resisted so far but I think one day I'll get something old and small to keep near my house in Spain.

Thanks. To paraphrase Darth Vader: "the addiction is strong with this one". I have spent so much time gazing at "boat ****" (read: yacht world) these past few years. . . .
Was strongly considering a Corsair 31 so that I could have performance and trailerablility and keep it in the back yard or in our lake for 0 dollars a month but ultimately came to realize that we needed a boat on which we could stand to spend more than a night at a time- IOW: the Admiral let me know she needed a little nicer accommodation . . . .

We used to sail on our friend’s MC30 and loved it. Simple, well built and decent performance, also surprisingly commodious for a 30’ open bridgedeck cat! We enjoyed the open bridgedeck concept so much that we recently purchased a TRT 1200.

I had only been on a Maine Cat 41 once before and loved the layout. The open bridge deck just feels so expansive and gives such great visibility! Also great for hanging out chatting. Don't know that I'd want to cross oceans in an open bridge deck boat but that's not in the plan anymore anyway. Your 1200 looks better for blue water cruising.. . assuming it looks like this one: http://www.2hulls.com/usedcatamaran-2003/trt.html
