I think Shell is just buying some PR.

Note, actual yachting content: Don't you think the fact that yachts are now regularly transiting the NW passage is some kind of clue?

In olden days when there were only a few thousand (ok make it millions) of people on earth, it was possible to WALK accross the NW passage. Now what does that tell you?

    You are confusing the landbridge

with the NW Passage. They are not the same. What the land bridge tells us is that it used to be a lot colder and its getting warmer. Anthropogenic warming added to the 'natural' climate trend is going to cause some very bad things to happen.

Are you saying it was a lot colder when they crossed the landbridge on foot?

Of course. The sea levels were lower because it was colder. This doesn't disprove anthropogenic global warming. Have you ever heard of the straw that broke the camel's back? If it's not too subtle for a proverb, I'm sure you can follow it, if you put your mind to it. We are placing the straw. If the camel dies, it takes an awful lot of us with it.

One straw alone wouldn't break the camel's back, and the load before the straw didn't break the camel's back. If you mean to argue that it's all nature, you must be hoping we can't do grade school arithmetic.

I understand your reasoning, what worries me is that those poor blighters a couple of thousands of years ago did not have much in terms of clothing and other amenities - must have been a helluva trek accros if it was even colder than today!!!!
