    Hello again,

It is going to be a hectic day for me tomorrow (Thursday) as itís the first day of my lecturing to MSc Meteorology & Climatology students at the University of Birmingham. These are the forecasters of the future and itís always fascinating to see their forecast knowledge as I take them through their Weather Forecasting module up to Christmas. Anyway, that is the reason I have issued the forecast this evening.

Thanks for your feedback about the new SWIS forecasts online at These will be added to the main SWIS site at very soon.

Sailing Weather School (part 2) is being held on 29th January 2011 and I have four spaces left on that course. To find out more about what we cover on each course, and to book, go to

For those of you who would like a more intensive weather learning experience, Iím running Advanced Sailing Weather on the weekend of 5th/6th February 2011. This will be an intensive two days of weather training from understanding how the weather works to using weather models, GRIB data and making your own forecasts. It is being run for a maximum of three people and I currently have one space left on this course. Again, for more information see

    Have a good weekend,

    Issued: 1700 Wednesday 6th October 2010

High pressure over Scandinavia with low pressure to the southwest of Ireland and a strong easterly flow across the British Isles.
Eastern facing slopes are going to experience low cloud and some spots of drizzle through the morning. These fading away quickly and then the day is going to be a fair one for most.
There will be broken cloud and some good spells of sunshine throughout the day, but the main feature of the weather will be the wind.
Generally a strong easterly flow through the whole country and this could reach near gale force at times in exposed areas.
W 20-25kt (F5-F6) for most but increasing through the day and becoming 25-30kt (F6-F7) in the south in the afternoon. There could also be significant gusts affecting west Wales and northwest England.

Little change through Sunday as the strong easterly flow persists. High pressure is to the north of Scotland with low pressure through northern parts of Spain.
There is the threat of some more low cloud drifting across southern counties of England and through the English Channel at first, and this could produce some spots of drizzle. This should be clearing though and then the day is set to be a fair one. There will be some good spells of sunshine around through all areas, the best of these to the west.
Very little change is expected in the wind speeds through the day with will again be Eíly 22-27kt (F5-F6) for most, but 28-33kt (F6-F7) along more exposed eastern and southern coasts.
