    Default 385 Helm seat

    Hi guys

Aftica, was fitted with what i can only describe as a 1 1/2 helmsman seat, i note that Helmut has a single one with arm rests.

i would be interested to know what the other 385 owners selected, does it work or woukd they change

personlly the i think 1 would have chosen a single with a foot rest

I have a Plastimo bucket seat, very swish! I thought I needed a footrest but then I found I could insert the legs between the spokes of the wheel and be very comfortabel (only remembering to remove feet from dashboard before going to manual helm)

    hi,
in bad wheather you need the armrests so i think the single seat is much better and i fully agree with troutbridge about the footrest.

i believe the bigger seats without armrests only look good in the brochure.....

our seat is a VETUS COMMODORE

    have a good day,

thankyou H & TB for your insights,

as i have 2 seat bases supporting the existing seat, i am thinking maybe put a single seat on the otherside of the boat adjacent to the door

do you think this is practicable at sea

does either of your seats swivel?

My Plastimo seat swivels and adjusts up/down fore & aft (but not by much).
I don't see why you couldn't fit a seat on the other side of the cockpit, the only thing would be that you'd lose cockpit space.

On my cat, though not a Broadblue,I have two single seats on either side of the cockpit. I think it's a great arrangement, let's you sit on the sunny side or the better side to watch traffic, buoys and sails.

Helmut, the only problem I've found is that when two people are in the cockpit for a daysail there's nowhere really comfortable for the second person to sit and see what's going on ahead. I tend to stand on the other seat and look forward, but I can see the attraction of a second seat there, I just don't think that there is enough room/strengh to mount a seat there.
