Probably already mentioned but I bought a new '44.
The original Lavranos mold was 43' then extended to '44. The lines of the "extra" section, in the finished product, were clearly visible. I would imagine the new model 48' was also extended to 50'.
Mine (1996) had large reinforcing stringers under the bridge-deck - clearance from these to water - not much.
Slamming is quite severe. Not so much upwind(who does that?). Off wind is worse...
However, it is a tradeoff. I reckon is a great seaworthy design - very low center of gravity - I felt safe in that regard in 30,000 ocean miles.
