    Default 1160 Lite and Sport

    In 2004 Seawind Catamarans launched the 38ft Seawind 1160...a ground breaking and innovative design that gained worldwide acclaim for its clever layout and use of space, ergonomic design and efficient short-handed sailing performance. With well over 100 Seawind 1160’s launched and sailing the world, the design has been well proven, from crossing the world’s largest oceans to chartering in the beautiful locations such as the Whitsundays, Thailand and Caribbean. Now with the Seawind and Corsair Marine design teams joining forces, a whole new approach is being taken to this classic design. The first Seawind 1160 LITE is currently in build.

    Philosophy - Simple, Fast & Light!

    Though the Seawind 1160 LITE will feature the same hull, deck, rig, sails and the famous Trifold door system of the previous 115 Seawind 1160's built, the design team have gone back to the drawing board on how to streamline the design to offer a robust cruising cat at a very attractive price. One of the most noticeable differences on board the Seawind 1160 LITE is the new sleek interior design and fit out. The timber kit will be replaced with light weight and stylish timber look laminate surfaces, with a new contemporary neutral colour palette. The upholstery will be modern, angular, yet practical with with a range of hard wearing Sunbrella fabrics to choose from.

    The Seawind 1160 LITE also changes from the traditional diesel sail drives to lighter 20hp Honda (or 25hp Yamaha) outboard engines with electric tilt providing the following benefits;

    Significant weight reduction
    No drag when sailing
    No growth on legs
    No electrolysis
    Low maintenance & low replacement costs
    Fuel stored external to the cabin
    More storage internally on the boat
    The layout will remain largely unchanged, though the ensuite on the starboard forward cabin will be replaced with a walk in wardrobe and wet locker.

    The galley will be simplified with an upright fridge/freezer and 3 burner stove, but still offered the same amount of storage with ring lockers, a handy shelf and plenty of cupboard space - far more in fact than in larger cats with galley up designs.

    The Seawind 1160 LITE also features;

    Resin infusion construction with hull in Vinylester resin
    Fully moulded carbon forebeam for stiffness
    Dual helm for maximum control
    Self tacking jib
    Extended hardtop area
    We have had an overwhelming response to the Seawind 1160 LITE already, with the first boat sold and on debut at Sydney International Boat Show and the following 4 production slots also sold.

    Attached is a comparison of what is on the new LITE vs the DELUXE and the optional SPORTS package featuring daggerboards. YES - Daggerboards on a production cat.

    Looks cool. I have to say, the anchor seems under specified.

    What's the sail area?

    Sounds great to me. Getting rid of the diesels and replacing with outboards should make a huge difference in performance. We are currently looking for our next boat so if Seawind would sell us one for 20 cents on the dollar we would be happy to take one! I mean we have been faithful 1000 owners! At least I can dream.

    Surely that 5lb anchor will hold considering the new lite weight of the boat

    Very interesting...and clever, as we come to expect from Seawind!

    We're curious, however, why the LITE doesn't come with the same 5 yr structural guarantee?

    It does have a 5 year structural guarantee. All the boats have the same warranty. The Warranty policy has changed to bring it into line a little more with the industry standard, though we are still better than most. One year stem to stern, three years blister and 5 years structural. The three year osmosis warranty is pretty redundant though, we have never had a boat with osmosis, ever.

    If anyone wonders about our warranty performance, I can, with the owners permission, give the name of every customer of mine, and they can let you know whether its any good or not. Obviously that would be for genuine, about to sign contract buyers only. I here some real horror stories with some manufacturers, and indeed one manufacturer I know, people like their boats, but buyers almost seem to factor in as a cost of purchase, the realisation that that manufacturer offers crap service.

    We suspected as much...and hence our query.

    When we looked through the checklist comparison in the link to your post, however, it appeared to suggest otherwise...or did we mis-read it?

    Seems to be an error in composition of the table. Thanks for picking that up

    Our pleasure...

    We hope you're well? We're embarking north again shortly for our Winter 2014 Exhibition Cruise. Our first exhibition opens at the Great Sandy Straits Marina on 28 June...and for something a bit different (for us!) we're trying a full 2 weeks trading at Hervey Bay through 13 July. Then we'll head further north on fully flexible () cruise timetable. Maybe we'll (finally!) meet up somewhere?!

    Well its on its way. First 1160 lite wrapped for transport from the Factory, with luck and no impediments to shipping schedule, it will make the Sydney Boat Show. Some random photos attached. Which may or may not show up? Link to drop box - this link should get you too some photos:

    Is the deluxe the old standard 1160? And what is the weight for the other 2 models in standard base trim?

    Looks good BTW

    Thats the new light in the photos, and yes the DELUXE is roughly equivalent to the old standard. Weight for the Sport is about the same as the light and for the Deluxe is about 600 kg heavier

    I also noticed that the 1160 and 1160 LITE specifications both mentioned displacement as 15,400 lbs. Does this include the motors in both cases?
