One of our "boat rules" is that if you need to hang on to something to remain standing, you have to wear a harness and be clipped in with a tether. Also, always at night when underway, as soon as you step out of the saloon, you have to clip in no matter the conditions. When we're off shore on passage we typically wear a harness even in benign conditions, but may not be tethered. But another boat rule is that when fighting a large fish, or landing any fish from the transom, we have to tether, so we may wear a harness to be able to get tethered quickly.
