Thanks for the compliments. I should have longboarded more, but it's not like it's the outside of the hulls...
Marijuana certainly would have helped pay for the build.
I have a 6m x 6m shed in the back yard I could have used for that. Of course, now that it's going to be legal here next year, I think I lost my chance.
Are you still happy with your new Mainsail?
Cheers.
Paul.
Yes, the main is great. Definitely a fan of square tops now!
Makes sense to not be overly pedantic about fairing under the bridgedeck. And it's a good place to learn spray painting too! I did exactly the same.
Yeah, I've got about 6 runs under the b-deck. The largest one shows in one of the pics, on the right edge of the photo. I have a pretty good handle on it now though.
Glad to hear about your mainsail, I'm leaning that way now too, after reading some of your previous posts.
Cheers.
Paul.
Port bow...

Looks great! You must be looking forward to the day she comes out of the shed, and you can stand back and look at her.
Ineed we are. We have not seen her in full, and it might look like a barge! But i will be happy with the shiny paint.
Thanks for your comments. It's nice to hear from someone who's "been there".
Cheers, and happy sailing.
Paul.
It's finally out of the garage! A few comments and specs.
Lifted the boat with the chainplates. She balanced really nice, and at 15m x 7.6m ( 50 feet long by 25 feet wide), fully resin infused, with the shorter (22 feet including the beams) bridgedeck, she has a mass of 6400kg (14,100 lbs). Not bad, not an Oram, but not bad. Best guess in sailing trim with mast, 7000kg lightship.
The Stb hull is roughed in, port is nearly empty, bridgedeck has completed, faired and painted, furniture, but no hardware (stove, fridge). Composite, integral, fuel tanks installed, (tested to 4psi, as per ABYC) 200 litres in tanks, so nearly 500 lbs of fuel, and all my tools, both engines and drivetrains. 2x 60 hp VW, zf25A transmissions, 1.25” shafts, and thrust bearings, cv shafts, and jumper shafts. Steering all installed to each hull, to 8 feet forward of the rudders. No rudders or boards installed.
28 feet left to fair on either side. The boat was too close to the garage walls to fair.
Cheers.
Paul.

Well done! It looks enormous in the context of a garden.
You must have a mighty big garage. Do you normally keep 10 cars in it or something, or did you build it specially for the boat? :-)
Mike
Nothing works on an old boat, except the skipper.
Hi Mike.
The house was bought, and the garage was built, in order to build the boat. We bought a house within a small city, so it would be easy to sell when we're through building the boat. We, temporarily, stopped cruising to build this boat. It's our "dream home".
Cheers.
Paul.
Congratulations!
I admire anyone who has the perseverance to build a boat especially one that big![]()
Thank you.
Paul.
Congrats Paul, she looks great! Very "Gunboat". Weight is pretty good. Might rise by a bit more than you estimate though, there's a fair bit in the mast sails, winches, grpund tackle etc.
Hi 44C, thanks for the compliments.
I've never been a fan of the "Gunboat" look, but you're right, it looks very similar. It just sort of happens, when you decide on inside steering, and a front workpit, form follows function. The view from inside is fantastic though, it feels like you're outside.
You're right about the weight, I should have added a few hundred kg to that.
Overall, we're happy with the results, and we're looking forward to getting "out there" again.
The boat is officially named GRIT. Because, as you know, it takes grit to build one.
Cheers.
Paul.
Recently I noticed my hi-beams were on without the indicator showing on the display.. Can anyone test and see if they push the stick in the hi beam mode to see if the blue indicator lights up? I could only get the indicator to come on using the manual hi-beam mode pulling toward you. Thanks
Launched Sept 28, 2019.
Looks stunning - worth all the hard work!!!
Have you sailed her yet?
Thank you for the compliment.
The mast and sails are going on this spring. We're waiting for quotes now.
Cheers.
Paul.
