    Default Protecting the helm

I am looking for ideas to provide some protection to the helm station while underway. Has anybody designed some kind of bimini or splash guard for this? Or is everybody else getting beat to hell when sailing in foul weather? I have a P43 1992
    thanks

In my opinion, no one should have to get cold and wet on a cat going to windward, or any other direction. That would be as crazy as sailing wearing a sowester and thick wollen pullover while heeling over on your ear! We have surely grown out of that some time ago.

There must be plenty of good designs for you to copy. I certainly hope so.

    Good luck.

Apparently not very many since no one has offered any. And it's not just cold and wet. Today I was stuck out there in the hot mexican sun. (like I have it so bad)

    Hello,

I am planning to design/build a new hard top bimini this fall mainly to provide protection to the helm. I've penned a few simple ideas thus far. Basically thinking of a small extrusion off the stainless arch (aft support of the bimini) that will be a housing for canvas &/or isen-glass. I'll certainly post here when I get a solid plan that I'm prepared to build.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

    Cheers,

If it is just sun protection you need maybe worth considering a Mantis Shade (or 2) https://www.pro-techt.com/

Have seen them on boats and are very well made. I have never used one or have any relationship with the company.

Had one of these. It wouldn't stay up in any breeze. The shade it threw was too small to be useful. Gave it away to a landlubber.
