Default Wharram Ariki 47' Catamaran

We have sold a couple of these boats and have now finished the mold. We will build these on a male mold of foam cored glass. James and Hanneke redrew the lines to optimize them for the glass construction while still keeping the beautiful lines of the classic Ariki.

James and Hanneke visited earlier this year and we were able to record some conversations with them. Here Hanneke talks about the Ariki.

Thanks for the pics, very nice looking vessel. What is the price range? I could not find anything on your site?

The boat is actually 48'-2" long. Here is some of our progress.

We have built a mock-up of the cockpit to work out the details.

I have to admit, I do like that boat. The Wharrams in general. We seriously considered them last year when we decided to get off our duff and buy a crusining cat before we're too old to enjoy it.

One of the things I wish that I had paid more attention to was bunk size. I'm going to remove the wall in this Catalac 12M to combine two forward bunks into one. The main bunk in that Ariki is too small for us, and there's no place to expand it to.

We looked at two Wharrams here, and a lot of photos. As much as I like the boats, they're built for average size people, in bunk layout and headroom. Alas, we're both XLs.

The main bunk in the Ariki is 80 "x 58". I would call that spacious.

My wife and I booked a state room on a Pahi 53 at http://www.archipelclub.com/ a couple of years ago and the berths on it were huge. I am 6'3" and my wife is 5'11". We were very comfortable. Great value for a Greek islands tour if anyone is looking to do the Greek islands on a budget. I bet the Boatsmith Ariki will be quite the boat once it's all done!

There is much more interior room on one of our boats as compared to a plywood boat. There are no stringers and everything is filleted out and sanded smooth.

You would, but we would not. The bunks on our boat are 54" wide and that is too narrow for us to sleep together comfortably. Another four inches wouldn't fix that for us, although it would help. I need room to extend an elbow or knee without restriction.

I love the Ariki design. But if we were looking at it to buy, just speaking for my wife and I, we'd not buy it with a 58" wide master bunk. Life is too short to be jammed up when you don't have to be.

I don't know what the bunk width on a chartered Greek Pahi is, but if it's not the same as the Ariki, that's totally immaterial. It's like saying a Chevy Volt has GREAT acceleration because I drove a Chevy Corvette once and that had great acceleration.

The boat ended up at 48'-2" LOA. We have worked up some specifications for this boat. We have sold three of them so far. Yes, we are stoked.
The first specs are for a basic sail-away boat. The second is for a very nicely equipped boat going to the west coast.

I am not surprised you have sold 3 so far. It is very nice looking boat that will treat it's owners well. Also nice to see that it is equipped ready to sail away. Keep up the pictures!

We delivered the first boat this weekend. The owner will build the cockpit, decks, interior, rig and systems.
