View Full Version : Rescue Laser Flare

I have used laser pointers as a silent signal to other yachts in anchorages around the world. I even used my night vision binoculars to see the path of the laser to guide it precisely to its intended target on my friend's yacht.

Although I don't use the laser pointer frequently, it is quiet effective when I want to gain a specific yacht's attention without making an announcement on vhf to everyone in the anchorage.

When I presented this for discussion on another forum, a reference was made by a participant to powerful rescue laser flares that would be valuable as a signaling device to aircraft and ships in the event of an emergency.

I plan to get some of these Rescue Laser Flares for Exit Only.

When you review the article, you will discover that the green rescue laser can be seen by search aircraft at a distance of more than thirty miles.

Expensive but they even work in daylight up to 3 miles and so I am now researching them as 5 hours continous use makes them a great addition to flares.

I wonder what would happen if you pointed them straight at a pirate boat and flashed it on and off?:) They may think you had a canon and was just getting the sighting:)

They would probably do one of two things. They would either shoot at you or turn around and run for it.

That at least gives some chance of them running away- better than none.

But on the other hand it increases the risk of them shooting at you - not good.
